What history says about Sheikh Shu..

The forest area located in the hills between Thessaloniki, in Asvestochori and in Panorama it is called Dasos Sheikh Sou. It is an artificial forest that was systematically reforested since the interwar period.

His name, means Sheikh's water and probably came from some fountain there.

From 1800 until the 1900 approximately the area was a forest of oaks. The area was barren and the first attempt at reforestation was made 1929 by professors P. Short and X. Georgopoulos. In space 60 years were planted approx 5 millions of trees.

Today the forest of Sheikh Sou is the Periastiko Dasos of Thessaloniki and is a lung of the city and a recreation area
of its inhabitants.
